Established in 2007 as a foreign exchange trading platform, eToro expanded over time to include stock trading and finally cryptocurrency trading in 2017. eToro is a multi-asset platform that offers stock and crypto investing as well as CFD trading. Like any other online broker, eToro allows users to invest in the live market of various cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Stellar, Chainlink, and Cardano.

We researched the eToro platform, fees, user experience, customer service, available cryptocurrencies, and more to determine if eToro is a good choice for crypto investors and traders.

Trading on eToro

The eToro trading platform got everything you need to get started with purchasing and selling cryptocurrencies. Their trading section allows traders to view current prices and of course, also buy and sell cryptocurrencies

Most notably and what eToro is probably most known for is its “social trading” feature that allows users to replicate everything other traders do in real-time based on past portfolio performance and risk assessments. This is a very innovative feature that can help bring more newcomers into the cryptocurrency space.

eToroX

One of the drawbacks of the eToro crypto exchange is its trading features. eToro lacks some of the advanced trading features available on other platforms such as Binance, including advanced charts and stop-loss orders. But, that’s where eToroX comes into the picture.

With eToroX users gets all the trading features you find at some of the best crypto exchanges, including advanced trading views, margin trading, trading APIs and much more. In addition to having more features, here you also find more than 120 other cryptocurrencies. This is a big leap compared to the eToro platform which only supports 40 digital assets.

eToro Mobile App

In addition to an easy-to-use dashboard on their website, eToro allows users to trade via an intuitive eToro mobile app. The dedicated eToro app is available for iOS and Android and has many useful features including one-click trading, dedicated research tabs, professional-level charts, and even offline trading.

Not every exchange out there offers a mobile app and the way eToro has implemented some of its features for mobile is very impressive. All in all, we really like their app and if you decide to start trading on eToro you should most definitely visit your respective app store to download it.

eToro Trading Fees

Traders on eToro can expect a flat trading fee of 1%. This is slightly higher than the industry standard but, it is still a respectable amount. However, if you convert one crypto to another it’s only a fee of 0.1%.

If you buy cryptocurrencies with leverage (that is, when you take out a loan on the eToro trading platform to make a purchase) then you will pay “overnight fees” which in other words is interest for borrowing funds from eToro.

Cryptocurrencies Available on eToro

eToro might not be the best cryptocurrency exchange when it comes to available cryptocurrencies however, they do offer all the biggest cryptocurrencies. eToro support over 30 different cryptocurrencies and some of them includes the following:

  • Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Ethereum (ETH)
  • Cardano (ADA)
  • Dogecoin (DOGE)
  • Litecoin (LTC)
  • Polkadot (DOT)
  • Solana (SOL)

Looking at some of the available cryptocurrencies above we can safely say that eToro offers enough to get you started with trading crypto.

Payment Methods Available

One of the drawbacks if you are a cryptocurrency enthusiast is that eToro only allows deposits with FIAT currencies. Some of the payment methods available includes:

  • Bank transfer
  • PayPal
  • Skrill
  • Neteller
  • Klarna
  • iDEAL

On the positive side, eToro doesn’t charge any fees when making a deposit. That’s right, at eToro you can expect 100% fee-less deposits. In terms of withdrawals, you can withdraw FIAT currencies using the methods previously mentioned. If you wish to withdraw cryptocurrencies you can withdraw them straight you your eToro Money crypto wallet.

eToro Customer Support

An important factor that affects whether a trader wishes to continue trading on the platform is customer service. eToro’s customer service has a lot to work on as it is currently limited to only email or support tickets. This means you don’t have direct access through an eToro live chat.

We tried contacting the support team through email and our experience was that they solved the inquiry but, the response time could have been better.

Our Verdict

Although the trading fees on the eToro cryptocurrency trading platform are slightly higher than other cryptocurrency exchange services, the benefits outweigh the costs as eToro offers much more than that. If you are a new trader then the “social trading” features and eToro’s simple but innovative design will be much approved.

If you are looking for a more advanced layout you still have the option to go with eToroX which combines an elegant and modern design with some more advanced trading views and features.

Overall, eToro is a good choice for new crypto traders and enthusiasts looking to improve their market knowledge.
